Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?
So we're pleased to present the 607th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Endless Stories.
Among the dozens of new videos we previewed this week, we couldn't get this three-minute film by Goofy Studio out of our mind. So we're flashing our license to go off script once in a while to share it with you. You won't regret it.
On the face of it, it's simply a telephone call. A son, at the end of a visit to his father's place, calls his mother.
"What happened?" she says. "Tell me."
And he does. He met a girl. And she's great. We watch them together as he tells his mother about her. It's as if he's remembering how he fell in love with her moment by moment.
And he wants to know -- from his mother -- how to keep the story from ending as he returns home.
We'll let her reveal the secret.
But we can promise you if you sit through it, you'll feel no older than this boy no matter how many decades you've tilled the soil, back and forth, row after row.
Toil may be endless but so, sometimes, is love.
