In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at immigration raid protests, Marjolein Martinot, Europe's subway stations, hybrid shooting lessons, Nikon Z 8 3.0 Firmware, monitors and Liquid Glass.

  • In Protests Over Immigration Raids Spread Beyond Los Angeles, the Associated Press chronicles the growing resistance to Trump's racially-targeted raids.
  • In Down by the River, Mee-Lai Stone features the work of Marjolein Martinot on mental health. "During periods of deep turmoil in her personal life, Dutch photographer and mother of six, Marjolein Martinot, sought solace in nature. Each evening she’d walk to a nearby river in the south of France with her camera in hand. There she captured the quiet beauty of the natural world in the golden light of dusk," she writes.
  • Kate Mothes showcase Thibault Drutel's images of Architectural Symmetry in Europe's Subway Stations. "When I photograph it, I try to freeze that moment where the built environment reveals something about human rhythm, urban choreography or our sense of space," he says.
  • Ryan Longnecker offers his Hybrid Shooting Lessons From a Photography Background. He focuses on "the main lessons I've learned in pre-production, gear selection, and on-set realities from shooting hybrid over the last five years."
  • In Released but Not Really: Z 8 3.0 Firmware, Thom Hogan notes the irony. Pixel shift shooting and flexible Picture Controls are the major changes. But Nikon has only announced the update, not released it. You can drool over the details at the Download page, which is missing download button at the moment.
  • A Reddit poster wonders, What Monitor Should I Buy for Photography? There were 54 responses (but not that many monitors).
  • Meet Liquid Glass introduces Apple's new "platform design language while providing a more dynamic and expressive user experience." While intended for developers, it's helpful for users to see what principles are behind the change.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
