In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a parade, Salt Flats, LensCulture portrait awards, AI data licensing and Brian Wilson.

  • Reuters presents 24 photos as Washington Readies for U.S. Army's 250th Anniversary Parade. Given the military incursion into Los Angeles, we found them disturbing. It might not be just a parade, Washington.
  • Suzanne Sease features Salt Flats, the personal project of Adam Ewing. "The legendary Bonneville Salt Flats, with its expansive vista that stretches 12 miles long and five miles wide, has been likened to the surface of the moon," he writes. "In this series, I sought to capture the dizzying speed of the man-made machines, being tested on a surreal landscape."
  • LensCulture has announced the winners, jurors' picks and finalists of its Portrait Awards. "These remarkable images reflect a wide spectrum of human experience, offering glimpses into lives shaped by joy, struggle, injustice and the ongoing fight for freedom and dignity," writes Jim Casper for the company.
  • The Hidden Economy Behind AI: is data licensing, Paul Melcher writes. "Text remains the bedrock of most AI models and it's no longer just scraped web text powering these systems. Over the past year, major publishing houses have stepped forward to license content directly for AI training, signaling a shift from ambiguity to transactional clarity."
  • The Guardian celebrates Brian Wilson with a gallery of images.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
