In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Iran, Jae C. Hong, Alice Austen, the Z 9 falling behind and monochrome.

  • Reuters shows 17 photos as Israel Strikes Iran.
  • Associated Press photographer Jae C. Hong captured the moment in the Los Angeles Protests when "a woman in a gas mask, standing face to face with a line of police in full riot gear, her hands raised, not to fight, not to give up, but appealing for calm."
  • Kate Mothes reports More Than 7,500 Prints and Negatives by Trailblazing Photographer Alice Austen Return Home. Along with a selection of the images, the piece includes a mini-biography of the prolific female photographer.
  • In The Z 9 Dissonance, Thom Hogan lists features Nikon's flagship mirrorless is missing. "The danger here is that the Z 8 becomes the best autofocusing Nikon," he writes.
  • Dahlia Ambrose shares 20 Monochrome Photographs for Creative Photography Ideas. "While black and white photography is monochrome and one that is most commonly referred to as monochrome, monochrome photography means, using different shades of a single color," she writes. Her selection stretches that a bit, but point taken.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
