Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?
So we're pleased to present the 609th in our series of Saturday matinees today: The Guild of Photographers.
The Guild of Photographers bills itself as "UK's friendly photography association." It's "dedicated to supporting, inspiring and recognising professional and aspiring photographers across the UK and beyond."
Members can submit a portfolio for review and gain designation as a "Qualified Photographer." The successful portfolio is called a "Qualified Panel." And we found a number of qualified panels, which are slide shows of about a minute of each member's winning work.
Here's a list of recent ones in various genres:
- Angi Wallace (above)
- Helen Otton
- Rob Bentley
- Nicky Wearmouth
- Jim Connolly
- Elena Gibson
- Deborah Hutchinson
- Aimee Lince
There's also a Master Craftsman designation:
The Guild publishes a magazine called Creative Light and a blog with product reviews, both of which are free for anyone to read online.
