In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Haute Couture week, Wonsan Kalma, smartphone camera as a tool and the dark side.
- The Associated Press features photos from Haute Couture Week in Paris.
- Photos of Wonsan Kalma highlight North Korea's new beach resort built for 20,000 people along a 2.5-mile stretch of the country's east coast. Finding 20,000 paying guests could be a problem Se Eun Gong reports. North Koreans don't have the disposable income and the country itself discourages tourism, except for Russians, 900 of which visited in 2024.
- In All the Things We Use Cellphone Cameras for That Aren't Photography, Mike Johnston lists the things people use the camera for that aren't strictly photography (but obviously is still imaging). As a visual tool, in short.
- In Tech Tales From the Dark Side, Derrick Story tells about "a technological mishap that I'm living with to this day." For two months, so far, he's avoided replacing his damaged iPhone 15 Pro Max.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
