It's that time of year again. Graduations. For us, this season brought one high school graduation and two college graduations, which we've come to think of as arrivals and departures.

Departing. iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera at f1.8, 1/40 second and ISO 200. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

We were amused to see the big events did not mean the end of anxiety for the parents. They were all, fathers and mothers alike, in the habit of unearthing new things to worry about.

For the high school graduate, it was a concern over how many years it will take to graduate from college. For the college grads it was getting a job.

Arrivals and departures.

Of course, you don't have to work on it very hard to find something to worry about. Especially these days. No matter who you are or what you can do.

That's especially true if you've been smart enough to graduate. You've learned to tell which way the wind blows.

And if you are as old as we are, you can remember (here's the root of our amusement) this generation of parents when they themselves were graduating and how their parents exhibited the same sort of concerns about them. Although you're wise enough not to bring this up at graduation parties.

But just as then when it was a different generation, you struggle to find any reason for concern.

These are bright people. Resourceful people. They'll figure it out. Just as their parents did.

As they depart for a destination none of us know, we wish them well. And look forward to hearing how they fare. Because they will, we know, fare well.
