In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Mexican border, AP's week, Reuter's week, Julie Hrudová, Bill Cunningham's archive and ethics.
- Jae C. Hong documents U.S. Troop Deployment on the Mexican border.
- The Associated Press showcases its top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Patrick Sison.
- Reuters presents 20 Photos of the Week from around the world. Same story.
- Kate Mothes explores Julie Hrudová’s Photos Frame Moments of Eccentricity which tap into "the humor that can sometimes emerge from mundanity; the wonder that stems from happenstance."
- The New York Historical Acquires Bill Cunningham Archive (gift link), "giving a permanent home to his tens of thousands of photographs, negatives, slides, contact sheets and memorabilia."
- In The Great Manipulator, Thom Hogan writes, "I get asked a lot these days about whether or not they should use any of the AI tools we now have available to us. My answer is yes, as long as you have an ethical stance and can treat AI like I do rocks." When he wants to move a rock, he makes sure that won't disturb its ecosystem. And after his shot, he puts it back.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
