In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Jehad Alshrafi, a medieval castle, Comic-Con and sensor technology.

  • Associated Press photographer Jehad Alshrafi covers a story that is Very Close to Home in the Gaza Strip. "In this photo, a scene unfolds with shouting, tears and desperation as people push forward in hopes of securing a single meal for their families," he says. "When I took this photo, my eyes were behind the camera, but my heart was with the people."
  • Alan Taylor presents photos that document Building a Medieval Castle in the 21st Century. "More than 25 years ago, Michel Guyot, the owner of a French château, launched an experimental castle-building project," he writes. "Workers using tools and techniques from the 13th century have now completed most of Guédelon Castle, and about 300,000 visitors a year come to watch and learn."
  • The Guardian presents images of attendees in costume at Comic-Con 2025 in San Diego.
  • Is That All There Is? Tom Hogan wonders about image sensor evolution. They're getting faster at analog-to-digital conversion and offloading, providing better focusing, higher frame rates and blackout free viewfinders. "The next step is likely intelligence on sensor," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
