In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week, the International Balloon Fiesta, Midwestern Nights, kudzu in infrared and a pole vaulter.

  • The Associated Press presents its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Anita Baca.
  • Reuters showcases 18 photos of hot air Balloons Over Bristol at the International Balloon Fiesta. Aerial views compliment the balloons with colorful spectator blankets spread on the grass.
  • Briana Ellis-Gibbs highlights Midwestern Nights, a new exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel by the Sea, Calif. "Robin Bailey, Jim Hill and Dave Jordano capture unusually compelling contrasts and independent businesses that have survived decades of change, from Michigan to Ohio."
  • Kate Mothes looks at Zac Henderson's images of the invasive Kudzu, which can grow a foot a day, in his new near-infrared series titled Palimpsest.
  • Ashley Landis got on the ground to capture A Soaring Pole Vaulter during the U.S. Championships athletics meet in Eugene, Ore. In a one-good-turn-deserves-another twist, the pole vaulter spotted Landis's wallet on the infield grass and arranged its return to her.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
