In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Europe on fire, NCAA Photos interns, a Vermont trip, beginnings, Intermodal and ExpressScan.
- Reuters presents 25 photos in Wildfires Blaze as Europe Bakes Under Extreme Heat Wave of record-breaking temperatures.
- Making More With Less by Tyler McFarland is the first of a two-part series from Think Tank Photo on internship with NCAA Photos. "On every assignment, managing my gear efficiently was essential to staying ready and capturing the kinds of thoughtful, intentional images I had planned for," he writes. The second piece will feature Isaac Wasserman.
- In Back From Vermont, Mike Johnston mentions losing his modified Sigma FP on a weekend trip that included a side trip to Massachusetts. Happily it was found by a photo lab employee and is on his way back to New York just a little behind his return.
- Derrick Story tells us How It All Began for him in this week's podcast. "I'm one of those odd folks who always knew what I wanted to do for a living," he says. We were hooked when we saw his photo of an Argus C-3, which was our first 35mm camera.
- Heidi Volpe interviews Kaya & Blank about their latest project, Intermodal. A telephoto lens completely changed their perspective of the Port of Los Angeles.
- LaserSoft Imaging has introduced its patented ExpressScan feature included with its SilverFast Archive Suite from version 9.1. "For many flatbed scanners, time savings of 50 percent to 75 percent can be achieved," the company said.
