In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Washington, D.C., Greece, Santa Barbara Hives, 2015's best cameras and searching images in Spotlight.

  • In National Guard Deploys to DC Streets, Reuters documents "an extraordinary assertion of presidential power in the nation's capital."
  • The Associated Press presents images of the Wildfires in Greece.
  • "Barnaby Draper is the kind of famous, globe-trotting photographer you read about in books," writes Jessica Vadegaran about Draper's new passion as a baker at and co-owner of Santa Barbara Hives where, presumably, he also does all the product shots. "I was shooting Massimo Bottura's book launch in London and decided to take pastry classes for the six weeks between shoots, instead of flying back to New York," Draper recalls.
  • In Best Cameras From 2015, Nilofer Khan lists five classics and one Canon to avoid. "In a time when tariffs are making life challenging for photographers, we have decided to look at some of the most unique offerings from the past decade, which can help you fill in the price gap," he writes.
  • Howard Oakley explains How to Search Spotlight for Live Text and Objects in Images. "Although this might seem obvious, it's more confusing than it appears and could mislead you into thinking that Spotlight indexing or search isn't working," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
