In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at World Photography Week, the International Space Station, D.C. occupied, the Tahiti Pro, Textures and Layers, camera-carrying hygiene, film, nano-texture displays and Kodak.

  • Over 700 NPR Readers Celebrate World Photography Day with the stories behind their favorite photos. World Photography Day is celebrated Aug. 19 but this is World Photography Week. So more to come, the editors promise.
  • Alan Taylor presents The Colors of the World, recent images captured by crew members aboard the International Space Station. Views of auroras, moonsets, the Milky Way and more are seen from from their vantage point in orbit.
  • The Associated Press presents Photos of the National Guard and Federal Agents in Washington. Not to mention the citizens protesting the occupation.
  • The Guardian showcase surfers at The 2025 Tahiti Pro. "Taking place over nine days, there were wipeouts, tears and smiles as the surfers conquered Tahiti's heaviest break."
  • Rob Wood presents Light Stalking's July Textures and Layers photo contest winners.
  • In Camera-Carrying Hygiene, Mike Johnston reveals his method to avoid leaving his camera behind, which he recently failed to observe.
  • In Flirting With Film, Jason Row dabbles in the past when he inherits his father's Minolta X-300. He's not going back but the experience reminded him that "every image has value."
  • In It Is Possible I Have Made a Mistake, a Mac Power Users poster compares Apple Studio Displays with and without the physically etched nano-texture screen. The chemically etched iPad and MBP nano-texture options are also discussed (and praised).
  • In Statement Regarding Misleading Media Reports, Kodak insists, "Kodak has no plans to cease operations, go out of business or file for bankruptcy protection," claiming the company "is confident in its plan to meet all its obligations and optimistic about its future." CNN had suggested otherwise on Tuesday. Not that it matters to photographers any more (and this on World Photography Day).

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
