In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mariam Dagga, the Pickett Fire, a U.S. Open photographer, Gazania and Joel Meyerowitz.
- The Associated Press presents a gallery of Mariam Dagga's photos, who freelancedt for them, documented the stream of casualties that flowed into southern Gaza's main hospital. She followed doctors as they struggled to save starving children. Dagga was killed Monday by Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital, according to health officials.
- Reuters posts 15 photos of the Northern California Pickett Fire threatening Napa County.
- In Wayward Photographer Triggers Near-Riot at U.S. Open, Mike Johnston reflects on a failure "to maintain situational awareness." The photographer, who has since been banned from the Open, ran onto the court before the match was over.
- Harold Davis photographed a Gazania, the multicolored African daisy, on a black velvet background while it was still open.
- Kate Mothes reviews the forthcoming A Sense of Wonder, which highlights more than 90 images by Joel Meyerowitz that helped redefine street photography.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
