Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?
So we're pleased to present the 619th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Breath of the Sea.
This 3:01 video is a compilation of MatÃas Capizzano's clips captured around the world as a working photographer. "It aims to convey both the pure and complex essence of sailing and the common denominator that unites us all: the ocean and the wind," he writes in the liner notes.
Watching these scenes, we experienced a strong kinetic response from the very first one of waves breaking past us in slow motion to the last show of drops of water on the metal extension of a mirror.
The clips include drone coverage and time lapse and some underwater photography but the stuff that really grabbed us on the water under full sail hanging off the side of the boat.
We didn't at all mind the shots of a regatta on San Francisco Bay, either.
"I feel grateful to work in one of the best offices one could ever imagine -- sometimes a little wet, but always extraordinary. It allows me to experience unforgettable moments, remarkable people and unique places," he adds.
Unforgettable indeed.
