In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 9/11, Jamel Shabazz, Mark Steinmetz, Andrei Duman's X-Rays, iPhone Air vs. Pro, Andy Katz, The Online Photographer and macOS 26 Tahoe.

  • Reuters marks the anniversary with 22 Defining Images From the 9/11 Attacks. "Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001."
  • In Jamel Shabazz Shares His Untold 9/11 Story, Chris Gampat presents color images of the day and the story Shabazz has never told about them, in his own words.
  • Mee-Lai Stone presents Mark Steinmetz's black and white shots of The Sublime Poetry of the Everyday. "His work, particularly the evocative depictions of life in Georgia, Tennessee and Connecticut, reveals the gentle humanity in the ordinary, with fleeting, unexpected moments transformed into images of timeless beauty," she writes.
  • Suzanne Sease features Beyond the Surface: The Art of X-Rays, the personal project of Andrei Duman. "What began as a simple experiment—testing a few random objects—evolved into an ongoing six-year journey of discovery and documentation," he writes. "With each new subject, my appreciation for the hidden beauty and structural elegance of these objects grew."
  • Jason Snell compares the iPhone Air Versus iPhone 17 Pro, particularly in regard to the camera. "That one camera [in the Air] is incredibly capable -- it's a 48-megapixel model that can also generate 24-Mp super-resolution images or read only the center of its sensor for a '2x optical zoom,' similar to Apple's other iPhone cameras the last couple of years," he writes. "But if you want a bigger zoom or a proper wide-angle or good macro photography or the ability to capture spatial scenes, you are out of luck."
  • Andy Katz has published A Walk in the Park with over 100 images taken in the country's national parks. A percentage of proceeds benefit America's beleaguered National Parks. Katz is also selling prints of the work.
  • What Just Happened?! Mike Johnston asks as the TypePad version of The Online Photographer comes back to life.
  • With the release of macOS 26 Tahoe on Monday, Howard Oakley advises on how to Prepare to Upgrade macOS. We'll note the more common complaints by photographers of missing printer and scanner drivers. Waiting for compatible versions is your only recourse.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
