In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the World Athletics Championships, eye recognition, Print Matters, a Carbon Cub EX kit and Thom Hogan.

  • Steven Bloor showcases a selection of images from World Athletics Championships at the conclusion of the event in Tokyo. We were impressed by the men's 10,000m cameraman following the action on an electric unicycle.
  • Associated Press photographer Petr David Josek captured A Hurdler's Eyes under the hurdles from a photographer's moat with the Sony A1 II's eye recognition feature.
  • The Getty has published _Print Matters: Media and Modernity in Illustrated Magazines, 1910–1970, "a richly illustrated volume that reconsiders the illustrated magazine as a central force in shaping 20th-century visual culture."
  • In Random Excellence: Carbon Cub, Mike Johnston admires a photo of a Carbon Cub EX kit, "a modern expression of the classic Piper Cub" in about 1,500 pieces. He's trying to integrate images into his Patreon page's temporary home for The Online Photographer.
  • Thom Hogan admits he's Behinder Than Before after contracting Covid for the first time while trying to update his Z System books with information about Nikon's firmware updates.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
