In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at María Corina Machado, AP's week, Reuter's top photos, Charity Rachelle, Andrew Chapman, Jamel Shabazz and what happens.
- The Associated Press salutes María Corina Machado on her Nobel Peace Prize with former congresswoman and opposition leader before she was forced into hiding.
- The Associated Press also shares its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Bridget Jones.
- And Reuters presents 25 of its Photos of the Week from around the world.
- Charity Rachelle photographs Michell Browder's Mothers of Gynecology Project. "Browder understands better than most people how Black history has been constructed and contested; how easy it is to lose the narrative; how quickly women in particular are forgotten," writes Nina Martin in the story the photos accompany.
- Australian photographer Andrew Chapman's new book, Fill the Frame, documents his family, the bush, city streets, politics and music in Australia over the last five decades.
- Grace Ebert features the street photography of Jamel Shabazz in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. "The legendary photographer is best known for documenting the style, culture and political landscape of his native Brooklyn from the 1980s onward, part of which is now collected in a new book published by Prestel," she writes.
- A Reddit poster wonders What to Do With Collection as I Get Older? Well, not older, but deceased. What will happen to your photo collection when you die?
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
