In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Nikon Small World, polar bears, Cuba's retro rides, making do, architectural photos and a Godox V860 III problem.
- Winners of Nikon Small World have been announced. The Photomicrography Competition is open to anyone with an interest in microscopy and photography.
- Vadim Makhorov used a drone to photograph Polar Bears Chilling at Home in abandoned Russian research station while the video competition focuses on any movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope.
- Reuters showcases 22 photos of Cuba's Retro Rides in Havana. "The streets of Havana are still filled with cars that predate the 1959 communist revolution," the editors note.
- Mike Johnston suggests It's Fun to Make Do, meaning "winging it, extemporizing, using whatever you have and getting by." Instead of, you know, shopping for new gear. "Whether you're more naturally an optimizer or a make-doer, maybe the best advice is to keep it within reason," he advises.
- Dahlia Ambrose lists some resources to help Capture Better Architectural Photos.
- A Canon R10 photographer reports a Godox V860 III Issue in which the flash functioned perfectly unless he was out on a job. A long response explains the problem was likely how the flash was seated in the R10's deep hot shoe designed for video accessories.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
