In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week, Reuter's week, Claudia Rosel, New York's immigration courts, everyday life, subject detection, a free border tool and real photos that look fake.
- The Associated Press showcases its top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Bridget Jones.
- Reuters presents 20 photos of The Week in Pictures from around the world.
- Associated Press intern Claudia Rosel captured The Intensity of a Protest when soldiers fired on student protesters in Mexico City. "I had just arrived in Mexico some days prior and this was my very first assignment in Mexico City for the AP, so I did not know what to expect," she writes.
- Reuters posts 40 photos Inside the Nervous Halls of New York's Immigration Courts where masked ICE agents patrol to make detainments.
- Rob Wood presents Light Stalking's September Photo Contest Winners. The them was "The Beauty of Everyday Life."
- In The Next Generation X Factor, Thom Hogan talks about subject detection in autofocus systems. "Here's where I have problems with the current Z9 generation form of subject detection: it's missing a lot of subjects, conditions and situations," he writes. He's waiting for dual axis recognition.
- A Reddit poster reports, I Made a Tool to Add Borders to My Images. Noam Elisha's Image Border Editor is "a simple Web-based tool" created with "html/css/js all in one file so there's no install necessary."
- Jason Kottke posts three Real Photos That Look Fake.
