In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the election, George Orwell's Jura, Theyyam, Josh Aronson, the Pentax HD 16-50mm and still life photography.

  • The Associated Press presents images of the first General Election since Trump's return to the White House. Reuters adds 15 Scenes From Election Night.
  • Photographer Craig Easton retraced George Orwell's years on Jura, the Hebridean island where he wrote Nineteen Eighty-Four. Easton made a series of images with a large format camera, toning the prints in strong tea in homage to the author.
  • Kate Mothes features the photographs Navneet Jayakumar took documenting the ancient custom of Theyyam in India. "Theyyam is a reminder that the divine exists within and around us," Jayakumar says. "In an age of disconnection, its wisdom has the power to ground us and heal a fragmented world."
  • In Florida Boys, Magali Duzant interviews Josh Aronson about his "alternate vision of boyhood unfolding against the backdrop of the Floridian landscape."
  • Mike Johnston watches the price of a Pentax HD 16-50mm inflate $300 as he's visiting a Web page about it before exploring its attractions.
  • Dahlia Ambrose presents a reading list to inspire Creative Still Life Photos with ordinary objects at home.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
