In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a cannabis smoker, Nick's Cove, what Derrick bought and the Hedeco Spot One meter.
- Pulitzer-prize winning photographer Robert F. Bukaty captured a 75-year-old- Cannabis Smoker in the wild with a 70-200mm lens at 1/250 second, f2.8 and an ISO setting of 10,000. "That exposure results in a slightly grainy image but allowed me to use a fast enough shutter speed to 'freeze' the stream of smoke," he writes.
- Erin Wrightsman photographed the rebuilt Nick's Cove on Tomales Bay. Amanda Bartlett writes, "Now, after a nearly two-year-long hiatus, the treasured coastal landmark has been rebuilt and is welcoming guests again."
- Derrick Story lists My Five Favorite Photo Purchases of 2025. In order, they are a phone, a camera, a lens, a printer and a backpack.
- Alberto Lima reviews the $260 Hedeco Spot One spot meter and explains why spot metering is helpful for analog photography, at least. The bare bones meter is a Kickstarter project.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
