In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at London, Pandoro, film simulations, camera evaluation and non-domestic drones.
- Jason Hawkes captures Festive London From the Air at Night from a helicopter.
- Ye Fan sneaks into the Italian bakeries to photograph the making of Pandoro (gift link) for the holidays.
- After updating his Nikon Z f with firmware 3.0, Derrick Story had to check out the new Film Grain Options. He reports his findings in More Realistic Film Simulations With a Dash of Grain (which a free link to his Live View article which includes more images). In addition to Nikon, he talks about OM System OM-3 and Fujifilm X100V options.
- Mike Johnston tackles The Myth of 'The Good Camera'. "After all my years of camera-maven camera-craving gear-noggined enthusiasm for these cunning little devices, what it's all come down to is that what you like about a camera and how much you like shooting with it are not a secondary, also-ran kinds of considerations," he writes.
- In its press release FCC Updates Covered List, the FCC announces it will no longer authorize foreign-made drones under the same "unacceptable risk to the national security" the Trump administration cited in canceling offshore wind projects.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
