In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at aerial photos, Sarah Lee, Pelin Guven, Johnston on Ut and Anderson, Casio cameras, Kasson's HP summaries, Harold Davis, Colossal's favorite stories and a calibrated gray room color.
- Reuters share 38 of the Best Aerial Photos of the Year from around the world.
- In Capturing the Dark of Winter, Sarah Lee explains her attraction to dark scenes. "I realized this year that it is not the darkness I'm photographing, but, rather, the light. Always the light," she writes.
- In Switzerland Beyond the Postcard, Magali Duzant write about the street photography of Turkish photographer Pelin Guven. "Through bold shadows, shots of color and an eye for detail, she captures a world where glimmers of humor and an air of mystery catch the eye," she writes.
- In Rage Bait and Brain Rot, Mike Johnston explains why he hasn't written about "the recent 'conspiracy-theory' movie The Stringer and the Vanity Fair article (in two parts) in which photographer Christopher Anderson allegedly showed members of the Trump administration in a deliberately unflattering way." Oops, now he has.
- In Whatever Happened to Casio Cameras? Gavin Stoker writes, "It's a sad reminder that those who innovate aren't always the ones who ultimately win the race."
- Jim Kasson posts his Hasselblad X2D II Summary and Hasselblad XCD 35-100E f2.8-4 Summary.
- In Harold Davis -- Best of 2025, Harold Davis once again publishes his personal choice best-of selection.
- And Colossal lists Our Favorite Stories of 2025.
- A Reddit poster wonders about Painting a Room 18 percent Gray for Color Calibration. She ends up using Behr Greige from Home Depot.
