31 December 2025

We'd like to pretend we gave our traditional New Year's Eve story a lot of thought and spent as much time producing the images as it takes to assemble a Rose Bowl Parade float.

But life is short. And production efficiencies are consequently always welcome.

So we went with our first thought, inspired by all the slide shows we've traditionally done of Judy's band on New Year's Eve. The band happens to be silent so we always find some antique recording to go along with the images. This year we went with Jaudas' Society Orchestra performing The Old Timers Waltz (in, uh, 1918).

As for the images, we took the sage advice of the guy in the mirror. He told us, "Just shoot the band."

To make it a little different though, we thought we'd use Indigo's macro capability. Then we second thought we've really run that topic into the ground so why don't we elevate the discussion and take drone shots of the band in formation.

Except we don't have a drone and even if we did, we wouldn't be allowed to fly it around the living room.

Fortunately we're as tall as Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. At least in comparison to the band. So we can simulate the flight of a slow moving drone.

All of which proves how desperately we need a vacation.

But as we write this in Joyce's hospital room we can see a bit into the future. And there will be no vacation for us in the foreseeable future that we toast tonight.

Happy New Year anyway!
