In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at enduring American symbols, wildlife's week, AP's week, ofrendas, a Lake Tahoe meadow and a cargo bike.
- As the country marks 250 years, the Associated Press presents images of Enduring American Symbols from around the world, showing "how the American idea is celebrated, borrowed, reshaped and, in some places, rejected."
- Joanna Ruck celebrates the Week in Wildlife with photos of Neil the seal, a pink grasshopper and condors in love.
- The Associated Press showcases its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Anita Baca.
- In Made to Remember, Ofelia and Rosanna Esparza talk about creating an ofrenda an altar created to honor deceased loved ones. Photographs of ancestors is an integral part of that:
- Julie Brown Davis tells the story in words and photos of A Lake Tahoe Meadow coming back to life under the stewardship of the Washoe Tribe. "This is the culmination of a nearly 30-year agreement with the Forest Service to let the Washoe Tribe lead an environmental restoration project in Lake Tahoe and do the work to heal their ancestral land," she writes.
- In A Monster Stolen, a Monster Regained, Nicolas David recounts how Ashley Von Edge's cargo bike was stolen but, after a bike chase worthy of Bullit, it was recovered. Von Edge took the photos.
