In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at America at 250 years, fireworks in the fog, Wimbledon, Rafal Milach, Johnston's camera report and Lightroom Classic.

  • In America Marks 250 Years, the Associated Press shows how people across the country celebrated July Fourth this year. Reuters adds 24 more photos of America's 250th Birthday.
  • Meanwhile Kevin Kelleher & Emily Trinh braved the fog to cover a Fireworks Show Derailed by Fog in San Francisco. "As each firework reached its climactic explosion, it was quickly gobbled up by the marine layer, leaving only faint glimmers of light visible in a dim, cloudy haze. The show reportedly lasted 15 minutes," Amanda Bartlett writes.
  • The Guardian's Sarah Lee soaks up the atmosphere at the All England Club as Wimbledon enters its second week. "I found it a corrective balm to the world at large, seeing people in large crowds being considerate and getting on with each other," she writes.
  • In Refusal Second Fracture, Erik Vroons interviews Rafal Milach "about the potential of collective practices to challenge existing political structures." The title is from an exhibit currently on view at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
  • Mike Johnston returns from his son's wedding with a Camera Report on what he brought and what he used. "The last observation I have about camera choice and camera use is that the Olympus didn't replace the iPhone, which was the whole idea when I originally got it," he writes.
  • Thom Hogan adds a Third and Final Round to his Lightroom discussion.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look fie years back. And please support our efforts...
