In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the NATO summit, Costa Rica, learning image processing, Graciela Iturbide and the LensCulture Photobook Prize.

  • Reuters presents 15 photos from A Tense NATO Summit. "Trump threw a summit of NATO leaders into disarray as he demanded the U.S. cut trade ties with Spain and made renewed ‌claims on Greenland," the editors note.
  • Derrick Story and Rob Knight see Costa Rica through their workshop photographers.
  • In How to Learn Image Processing, Jim Kasson suggests the first stage is to "Look at the world. Really look." And the second is "to see how other people have dealt with the problem of representing three-dimensional, stereoscopic, incredibly detailed reality in photographs."
  • The retrospective Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds spanning over five decades of work opens July 11 at SFMOMA. "While her work remains deeply connected to Mexico, Iturbide has also photographed in places including India, Madagascar, Italy, the United States and elsewhere, approaching each with the same passionate curiosity and respect," the museum notes.
  • The inaugural LensCulture Photobook Prize offers one photographer the opportunity to transform an unpublished project into a beautifully designed, professionally printed and internationally distributed photobook -- fully funded. In partnership with Nazraeli Press, the winning project will be designed, produced, and distributed worldwide. Additional prizes go to 5 Shortlisted and 10 Finalist photographers. Deadline is Aug. 12.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
