In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at daily life, BMX Racing World Championships, editing ethics, World Cup camera innovations and posing models.
- The Associated Press present a few striking images of Daily Life Around the World.
- The Guardian curates images of the BMX Racing World Championships in Australia from several sources.
- In Photoshop Ethics, Mike Johnston confesses to being uncomfortable deviating from what the camera captures in a fraction of a second. But he shows us a composite image he created. "What has become of Mike's highflown principles?" he asks. Context matters. Presented as a factual depiction of a particular moment, the image deceives. Presented as a expression of the photographer's appreciation of that place at that time, it speaks eloquently. Photojournalism and art play by different rules. What may not be fine on the front page, can still be admired in a gallery.
- Zach Sutton looks at Camera Innovations Used in the 2026 World Cup. You may have noticed the shadow of one of them, a spidercam, flying over the field. Refs wore cameras, too. And broadcast cameras were dumped in favor of cine cameras, which provided a much shallower depth of field.
