In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Europe's wildfires, Heipi Super Clamp, AI watermark removal tools and the Wellcome Photography Prize.
- Reuters documents Europe's Summer of Wildfires in 29 photos.
- Feroz Khan reviews the Heipi Super Clamp Sabertooth C100, which provides a steady camera support where tripods can't go. He tried it with "a couple of magic arms, a phone clamp, a mini ball head and an Arca-swiss compatible panorama head." The clamp is under $70 at B&H.
- An event photographer asks Reddit for an AI Proof Watermark Solution. "I've been incredibly successful for the last 10 years doing this, but sales are starting to slip due to AI watermark removal tools," they write. Replies focus on making low-res previews to avoid a printable image. But the time-honored approach was never watermarking. It is to add copyright information to the Exif header. If that's removed, it's clear and actionable.
- The Wellcome Photography Prize "brings together photography and scientific imaging to showcase work from different cultures, communities and disciplines." It is open for entries with "images that reveal how health is experienced, represented and understood" until Oct. 21.
