In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Spokane, Paolo Roversi, Malibu, an iris, the key new camera feature and backups.
- Reuters presents 18 photos of the destruction in Spokane of over 700 houses and other buildings, forcing 64,000 people to evacuate.
- A new exhibition showcases Italian fashion photographer Paolo Roversi's Dreamlike Visions where light, blur and even mistakes contribute to an image's beauty. "He cites Robert Frank, August Sander and Erwin Blumenfeld as influences and he shares Julia Margaret Cameron's conviction that a picture is done when it's beautiful, not when it's sharp."
- In Postcards From the Pacific, Stacy Suaya presents images from the Getty Museum photography collection of Malibu as it "crested into an international surfing destination."
- Harold Davis showcases his Iris Pose, "a capture of the first flower from an iris bulb I planted in the spring."
- Derrick Story asks his Inner Circle Members, "What's the most important New Camera Feature?" The feature, that is, that they look for in a new camera body. Answers varied widely.
