In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at celebrity impersonators, high heels, Bermuda, Worlds Unfolding, demystifying and The Fifty.

  • Cybele Malinowski spent two years in Las Vegas shooting portraits of Celebrity Impersonators for her project Deepfake.
  • Francisco Seco photographed High Heels Amid the Rubble while currently on assignment in Ukraine. "Basically, I followed the woman for a couple of minutes, just waiting for the moment and angle when she walked across the debris so I could photograph her with the best and cleanest composition," he writes.
  • In Descendants of Summer, Nicola Muirhead writes about photographing Bermuda's "complex inheritance of slavery, migration, resilience and community carried across generations." She notes, "My work aims to look beyond the clichés of paradise to reveal the deeper truths held in a place small enough for history to feel intimate, yet expansive enough to speak to the broader Atlantic world."
  • Kate Mothes reviews Worlds Unfolding: Science on the Page from Princeton University Press. "The five-volume tome features more than 625 illustrations and an introduction by engineer and PBS personality Bill Nye," she writes. "Moreover, it's an exploration of global science, medicine and technology through the remarkable archives of The Huntington in San Marino, California."
  • In (De)Mystifying, Mike Johnston remembers a friend who had 40 old view cameras because "he felt the need to demystify old view cameras." He explains, "He simply wanted to find out for himself what was up with all the different tools, such that he could know first-hand what everyone was talking about."
  • In The Fifty, VSCO announces it is selecting 50 photographers, one from every state, to have their work featured on billboards across the country, licensed and compensated by VSCO. Deadline is Sept. 10.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
