In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Henry Wessel, the Strait of Hormuz beach, a thousand posters, September 1, the Lit Duo 1 and Jean-François Leroy.

  • Kate Mothes reviews Henry Wessel -- Photographs and Books. The show opens today and continues through Nov. 14 in New York
  • The Associated Press show what daily life looks like On the Beach Along the Strait of Hormuz for Iranians.
  • Neal Young snaps the Remnants of a Thousand Posters at Geary Blvd. and 18th Ave. in San Francisco.
  • In Drop Into Fall, Thom Hogan begins, "Turns out that September 1 was an important day, as prices changed for many items starting deep in the supply chain all the way up to finished products." He goes on to point out only Fujifilm and Panasonic have gained market share in mirrorless unit volume, among other recent developments.
  • Feroz Khan reviews the $806 Lit Duo 1 light meter. "Iolor temperature, spectrum, illuminance and flicker measurements," he writes. "It has Bluetooth connectivity so you can pair it to a smartphone app, USB-C support for firmware updates, takes AAA batteries, and has an operating range of 0*deg;C to 30*deg;C (32*deg;F to 86*deg;F)."
  • We note the passing of Jean-François Leroy (gift link) at 69, whose photojournalism festival, Visa Pour l’Image, brought to wide attention images of war and suffering while shaping the careers of many photographers.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
