In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Reuters' week, AP's week, wildlife's week, camera collecting, Story's PEN review, Kathy Shorr and 9/11.
- Reuters highlights 21 Photos of the Week from around the world.
- The Associated Press showcases its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Anita Baca.
- Joanna Ruck celebrates the Week in Wildlife with images of a sea turtle hatchling, baby orangutans and flying ibises, among others.
- In Collecting II, Mike Johnston makes "some distinctions we should make between collecting, accumulating and hoarding." This follows an earlier post on his "imaginary camera collection." He suggests, "If I were building a more focused camera collection right now, a good opportunity might be to collect early digital cameras."
- In his OM System PEN Review, Derrick Story writes, "The OM System PEN is as cute as a giggling two-year-old, as smart as your math teacher and as faithful as any companion you wish to always have at your side." Perish the thought.
- Jonathan Blaustein reviews Kathy Shorr's Limousine. "It's a time-capsule book, filled with black and white images of Brooklynites, on their way to weddings, christenings, fancy events and maybe a Bar Mitzvah or two," he writes. "Kathy Shorr made the pictures while she was a paid limo driver, after graduating with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan." He likes it.
- In Americans Mark 25 Years Since 9/11, Associated Press photographers cover the memorial ceremonies, moments of silence, vigils and tributes. Reuters presents 24 photos Commemorating 9/11 at Ground Zero, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa.
