In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the U.S. Open, New York Fashion Week, Pajaros Rosas, three tripods and Apple's iPhone 18 aperture blades.

  • The Associated Press covers the Grand Slam tennis action at the U.S. Open in New York.
  • Reuters presents 37 photos from New York Fashion Week as designers showcased their spring/summer 2027 collections.
  • Michael Santiago snapped a photo of Pajaros Rosas (Pink Birds) on 18th Street in San Francisco. Not to mention the Red Toothbrush.
  • Nilofer Khan compares Three Tripods: the ProMaster SP528K, Benro Rhino and Heipi W28S 3-in-1. The Heipi gets his vote.
  • Apple's iPhone 18 aperture blades, a hot topic, are cooly discussed by Antonio G. Di Benedetto in The Variable Aperture Isn't the Cool Part. He concedes a few situations where stopping down will be helpful but the real star feature, he says, is that f1.48 maximum aperture, a bit wider than the current f1.7.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
