Friday Slide Show: City Walk

It's Friday and the sun is shining so we're off to the museum to see what we can learn. With a camera over our shoulder.
But we woke up with the burning desire to look over last Saturday's shots from a trip downtown. And before we knew it, we had a slide show. So here you go:

Several years ago we briefly gave some thought to offering photowalks in San Francisco. It's something we enjoy doing ourselves and we thought it might be nice to share the fun. A reader survey we conducted at the time showed surprisingly strong approval for the idea.
What exactly is a photowalk? Here's one definition:
Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting.
Helpful, no? Actually that little word "things" is of some significance:
While related to street photography, photowalking is differentiated by its impetus to photograph things of interest rather than people specifically.
OK, that helps. "Impetus" is probably the wrong word, though. Probably should have kept it simple. "Photowalking differs from street photography by focusing on objects rather than people." Although that might start an interesting debate in itself.
We've attended a photowalk or two ourselves. And noticed that we might as well not bring a camera. We enjoy chatting with the other photographers and discovering what they use to capture their images and what they like to do with them afterwards.
Photographers are just some of the nicest people around.
But when it comes to actually taking photos, as we did on our little foray downtown last Saturday, we like to be alone. That way we aren't holding anyone back as we stand in front of some obscure nothing and try to figure out what exactly it is that has struck us as interesting.
So no photowalk tours, we decided. But never leave the house without a camera.
