In Google+ Hangouts and Photos: save some time, share your story, Google Senior Vice President Vic Gundotra described the Google+ improvements to its photo and video services showcased at today's October event in San Francisco.
Google posted a video of today's event, which was also live streamed:
Photo improvements to the social networking site include:
- Full-size backups and background sync on Google+ for iOS so you can backup your photos as you take them
- Improved image search that can recognize over a thousand different objects -- from sunsets to snowmen
- Adjustable Auto Enhance to improve photos added to Google+ (but you can also exempt an album entirely if you've already edited the images)
- Snapseed adds a new HDR Scape filter, a single-image HDR effect
- Analog Efex Pro added to the $149 Nik Collection to edit images using classic cameras and processing methods from toy and medium format to wet plate and vintage.
In addition, Google+'s Auto Awesome adds three new techniques:
- Action creates a strobe-effect photograph
- Eraser can remove moving objects (like pedestrians) from a sequence of images of a landmark
- Movie produces highlight reels from your photos and videos—complete with effects, transitions and a soundtrack—automatically
Gundotra said all of the improvments will be available this week. Auto Awesome Movie requires Android 4.3+ (including the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and HTC One) but the other apps are not so picky.
