Apple Issues Raw Compatibility Update 5.01 Share This on LinkedIn   Share This on Google   Tweet This   Forward This

14 November 2013

Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibiity 5.01 with support for new cameras in Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11. But there's a catch.

The update is only for Mac OS X 10.8.5, 10.9 or later. If you're running Snow Leopard or Lion, you can't install the 6.66-MB update. While it's unusual to restrict a Raw compatibility update (which merely adds support for new Raw formats) to operating system versions, Apple integrates Raw support with the OS.

New camera Raw formats supported by the update include the Canon G16/S120, Fujifilm X-A1, Nikon P7800/D610, Olympus E-PL6, Panasonic GX7/LF1 and Sony Alpha ILCE-3000/NEX-5T.

For those left out in the cold, one option is to use Adobe's free DNG Converter to convert unsupported Raw formats to the DNG format before import into iPhoto or Aperture.
