In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at using a slide projector to copy slides, setting up a lens testing station, film restoration at the Criterion Collection and Kost's new course at Lynda.com.
- In DIY Slide Digitizer with Olympus OM-D and Leica Projector, Derrick Story takes the lens off his slide projector, sandwiches a diffuser to his slide and shots it with a macro lens. The scheme was inspired by Victor Kaijser Bots' automatic slide digitizer project.
- Roger Cicala discusses Setting Up an Optical Testing Station so the common man can tell if a lens is decentered or misaligned. Roger even links to a free test chart.
- A month ago Gizmodo released a six-and-a-half-minute production titled Film Restoration at Criterion Collection, which we just caught today at Kottke.org. Every frame is scanned as a single file, every retouched spot identified.
- Lynda.com has published The Art of Photoshop Compositing with Julieanne Kost. Available to members, the three-hour course covers adjustment layers, masking, blending and Smart Objects.
