HDRsoft has released Photomatix Essentials 4 [MW], "a major upgrade" of its $39 high dynamic range software. The new version is a free upgrade for licensed users of any version of Photomatix Essentials and available at no charge for licensed users of Photomatix Pro.

Version 4 adds a tone mapping method tuned for realistic results while preserving details in both highlights and shadows. It also offers presets for one-click access to various styles, as well as manual control of the settings.

A Finishing Touch tool can increase contrast or sharpness of the final image, you can undo and redo the HDR result with other settings and there is now an option to toggle between the original photo and a preview of the current settings.

BOURNEMOUTH, U.K. -- HDRsoft has released Photomatix Essentials 4, a major upgrade of its high dynamic range software aimed at enthusiast photographers.

Photomatix Essentials is an intuitive standalone photo processing application that merges bracketed photos to allow a greater dynamic range than conventional digital photography. It is designed to be easy-to-use but powerful enough to produce professional-quality results.
