WPPI Annual 16x20 Print, Album and Filmmaking Competition Recognizes and Rewards the Very Best in Wedding/Portrait Photography
Honors of Excellence Competition Accepting Submissions for Chance to Win up to $12,000 in Prizes and Publicity; Deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 21
NEW YORK -- Wedding & Portrait Photographers International has announced that submissions are now being accepted for its Annual 16x20 Print, Album and Filmmaking competitions. Submissions will be critiqued live at the WPPI Wedding and Portrait Photography Conference + Expo from Feb. 28 to March 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. Each submission category will be adjudicated by a rotating panel of prominent judges, headed by competition director Jerry Ghionis. Ghionis will also be hosting the Honors of Excellence awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 4 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The deadline to submit images online is Jan. 21 and all prints, albums and films must be received at WPPI headquarters in New York by Jan. 25.
The Honors of Excellence program recognizes the power of continuing education for photographers and harnesses this through the individual feedback given per entry in the Annual competition and live judging. Both contest entrants and photographers hoping to further enhance their craft can sit in on the judging sessions and learn what components of imagery, composition and lighting are given precedence over others as well as what techniques and skills they can improve upon. As each image is scored, the program's point system is explained, inspiring those photographers eager to further distinguish themselves.
Many hail the live critique and judging process as one of the most exciting and unique educational experiences of the industry. Anyone in attendance will gain helpful tips on the do's and don'ts when creating portraits and films, but also discover the various techniques their peers bring to the art. The two-day competition judging event is free and open to all Full Platform Pass holders and will be conducted from 8AM to 6PM on both Saturday and Sunday.
"Education and community are the central tenets of WPPI and The Annual competition seamlessly blends those two elements, giving inspiration to every photographer, whether attendee or judge" explains Jason Groupp, WPPI Director of Education and Membership.
"We're all working together to improve ourselves; the ability to learn from each other is a very powerful thing."
The judging, critiquing and dialogue all culminate with the Honors of Excellence cocktail party and awards ceremony held on Wednesday, March 4 from 6:00 -- 9:00 p.m. A fitting end to the WPPI conference and expo, the awards ceremony will welcome more than 1,000 photographers to celebrate the very best in photography and close out an intense week of learning, exploring and bonding. Conference attendees should dress to impress and must have a Full Platform Pass to attend the Honors of Excellence awards ceremony.
