In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Canon 100-400 IS L Markk II, The Lightroom Show, the Flex-Tilt tripod head and Darkroom, an iOS app.

  • Roger Cicala wonders if the Canon 100-400 IS L Markk II is the best built lens ever? He takes one apart to find out. Just the tripod mount by itself is impressive.
  • RC Concepcion and Scott Kelby have posted the nine-minute premiere of The Lightroom Show, which will air every Friday, Kelby promised, with "quick tips and techniques."
  • Edelkrone engineers some innovative support gear, like its Sliderplus and FocusOne. You can now add the $99.99 Flex-Tilt tripod head to that list. It can hold a 5.5 lb. camera pointed down without a tripod (because it has a square base) and articulates 340 degrees. But you really have to see it in action:
  • Darkroom is free iOS app with Raw editing tools like Curves (for an additional $2.99, editable filters, 12 presets and infinite history (which we could all use). And it's fast. Introducing Darkroom gives a little background on the project. Here's the (drum beat) video:
