In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at POYI winners, the iSelfie Two remote control app, Anja Niedringhaus and a deal on Picattoo temporary tattoos of your Facebook or Instagram images.

  • Winners of Pictures of the Year International showcases the 11 winning images. "All of the images are reviewed before judging," according to the competition director Rick Shaw, "and if questions arise over the processing, the photographer is given the option of sending a Raw file for further examination or providing a 'more suitably toned image' in its place." The standard, he said, is to "replicate what the human eye experiences."
  • The free iSelfie Two makes a peer-to-peer WiFi connection between two iOS devices "to take photos or video remotely with live preview." One device plays camera, the other is the remote control with a live preview.
  • Former Marine Brian Morgan remembers Associated Press photographer Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in Afghanistan last year. Niedringhaus "never sought to misrepresent what she did or who she was. She remained true to herself, her colleagues and her subjects," he writes.
  • Log into Picattoo.com, connect your Facebook or Instagram account and you can print high quality, temporary tattoos using INK361 technology. Use the code PHOTOCORNERS to get a 10 percent discount.
