LaserSoft Imaging Releases SilverFast 8.5

In an email to current users of SilverFast v8, LaserSoft Imaging announced that v8.5 is available as a free download. The new version includes a new HDRiRAW data format and an iOS app for mobile devices while dropping support for 32-bit operating systems.
SILVERFAST 8.5 HIGHLIGHTS
Highlights of the new release include:
- HDRiRAW Raw Data Format. HDRiRAW is a new non-destructive Raw data format that store image optimizations in the file's meta-data. You can undo or adjust any previous edit. In addition to the image data, HDRiRAW also contains your scanner's infrared data for dust and scratch removal iSRD. SilverFast calls it "the ideal archive format."
- Revised JobManager. After scanning into the new HDRiRAW format, the JobManager can be used for the batch processing image optimizations. With version 8.5, it's possible to setup multiple jobs in parallel and to process them automatically one after the other.
- JobMonitor iPhone App. The new Archive Suite also includes an iOS app, integrating mobile devices into the scanning workflow as a status monitor for the new JobManager. It displays scanning progress, image processing and preview images on an iPhone or iPad. If a WiFi connection is not available, a Push Notification will notify you once your scanner has finished its current job.
NEW SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The company also announced new system requirements with the release of v8.5, discontinuing support for all 32-bit systems, Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.5/ 10.6.
The company noted:
Most of our professional and serious amateur users have already moved to recent-generation 64-bit operating systems, so we do not expect a large number of users to be impacted if we drop support for 32-bit operating systems. For those who are still using one of these older systems, we encourage you to start planning for a migration to a newer, 64-bit operating system.
System requirements for v8.5 include:
- 64-bit systems: Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 or Mac OS X from 10.7
- 2-GHz Processor or faster (Multi-core recommended)
- 2-GB RAM main memory (4-GB RAM recommended)
- 2-GB free space on hard disk drive for the software file
- Up to 20-GB free space on the system hard disk drive for the cache
- Supported scanner (compatibility)
- DVD drive or Internet connection
- Latest firmware installed on scanner device
SilverFast is compatible with Photoshop CS3 to CS6 and CC, Elements 8 to 13 and can be installed on Windows as a TWAIN module.
