In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at flash that looks like ambient lighting, Google Photos' High Quality compression, ghosts in Bodie and the Nikon D810A for landscape astrophotography.
- In On Assignment: The Light You Don't See, Strobist David Hobby shows how to set up a 100 percent strobe-lit scene so it looks not lit artificially.
- John Nack shows off Google Photos' High Quality compression. The free storage option compresses your originals but not perceptibly, the company argues. Nack uses it for all his smartphone shots.
- Leah Gerber discovers a Creative Reflection Technique in the ghost town Bodie.
- Adam Woodworth reviews the Nikon D810A for landscape astrophotography, comparing it to the D810 and the D750 with discussions of ISO, star stacking and the IR filter. DPReview has published more of his work with the D810A.
