10 November 2015

There are nine days to go in Breakthrough Technology's Kickstarter campaign for its no-compromise X3 CPL circular polarizer. The $50 discount from list is sold out but the $40 discount for 39mm, 46mm, 49mm, 52mm, 58mm and 62mm sizes are still available.

In addition to those sizes, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, 82mm, 95mm and 105mm sized filters are available. Discounted prices range from $89 to $159.

Breakthrough claims the X3 CPL "is the worlds sharpest and most color neutral CPL." While circular polarizers start a shift toward yellow at 650nm and up, the CrystalVision film in the X3 CPL actually decreases the shift from 600nm, the company said.

The glass is Schott B270 optical glass made in Germany and coated with Nanotec nano coating to repel the elements. To eliminate reflections the X3 CPL uses eight layers of MRC16 coating on each side.

It's Traction frame is gorgeous, made by CNC machining brass and electroplating a matte black finish on it. It's double-threaded with threads on the front to permit easy filter stacking and lens cap attachment.

Earlier this year, the company introduced a line of X3 neutral density filters.

The company expects to deliver in quantity by the end of the year. Adorama, Amazon and B&H are among the retail outlets that will offer the X3 CPL.
