In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at a new book by Julieanne Kost, getting started with Lightroom, long iPhone exposures and backstage at The Nutcracker.

  • Julieanne Kost's new Passenger Seat covers "creating a photographic project from conception through execution in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom." The paperback is $27.31, less than the Kindle edition ($35.99).
  • Terry White details 10 things beginners need to know in How to Get Started With Lightroom CC, a 1:12:30 video presentation. Basics light importing, organizing a collection, rating images, adding keywords, editing images and exporting them join more advanced topics like face detection, using Lightroom mobile and Lightroom Web as well as moving images. Which is why it's so long.
  • Allyson Kazmucha explores long iPhone exposures, citing Slow Shutter Cam as her app of choice and a MeFOTO tripod and smartphone mount as essential hardware before dipping into some techniques.
  • Alan Taylor presents Reuters photographer Grigory Dukor's backstage images of Choreographer Nacho Duato's The Nutcracker, which is being performed at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. You'll learn how to warm up a pointe shoe while being dazzled by the dancing.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
