In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at the Leica Q, editorial story pitching, something beyond composition and a rental discount that expires tomorrow.
- In The Leica Q: A Six Month Field Test, Craig Mod doesn't beat around the bush. His lead: "The Leica Q is the best travel camera I've ever used." The Q made a splash at Paris Fashion Week, too.
- In Mike Sakas: Editorial Story Pitching, Heidi Volpe asks the photographer how he turns "the weirder spin-off stuff" into paying features. "Basically, I write an email with a hello or an introduction if I don't know the contact," he says. "I include a gripping (but short) narrative summary with a couple of images and then I wait."
- Wonderful Composition? is Moose Peterson shaking his head when someone posts "Wonderful composition!" He wonders if "that's how they relate to a photograph." He's pretty sure composition's "well defined rules" have little to do with it. It's something else entirely.
- BorrowLenses's two-day flash sale takes 15 percent off through tomorrow when you use the code PRESDAY16.
