In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Frank Espada, Nikon's DL Series, medium format and a Pentax K-1 appreciation.

  • Jeffrey Brown interviews poet Martin Espada about his photographer father Frank Espada whose work has been collected by the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
  • Thom Hogan evaluates the new Nikon DL Series, putting it in context with the competition from Canon, Panasonic and Sony. And, well, Nikon for that matter. He does find the DL 18-50mm unique, though.
  • Kirk Tuck takes his $1,700 kit (a Nikon D610 with a Sigma 50mm Art) on a walk "to pursue my long overlooked hobby -- photography." He admits he was "considering jumping on the recent medium format bandwagon," but this will do. Meanwhile Ming Thein did jump on the medium format bandwagon, as he explains in The Switch.
  • Meanwhile, don't forget about the Pentax K-1's Impressive Innovation. Lloyd Chambers hasn't. And details it at length to help you recover from any gear fever yesterday's announcements might have induced.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
