In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at early entries in a National Geographic photo contest, Hover Camera, Photographers Quarterly and an iPhone/camera quandry.
- Alan Taylor presents 24 entries in the 2016 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year Contest. Entries are being accepted through the end of the month so consider this a peek at the competition.
- The $600 (or so) Hover Camera takes 13-Mp stills and 4K video while hovering in the air right where you put it (or following you along) and folds up into its book-sized carbon fiber frame. And it won't crash. Really.
- Issue No. 4 of Photographers Quarterly is now available (for free) with portfolios by Emmet Gowin, Paula McCartney, Chris Kleighe, Laura Husar Garcia, Niko J. Kallianiotis, Cheryl Medow and Caleb Cain Marcus.
- Derrick Story was at Oracle Arena last night with both an iPhone and an Olympus OM-D E-M10. Love My iPhone, but Still Carry a Camera, he confesses. We're pretty sure the photo of Draymond Green shows him reaching up to shake Derrick's hand.
More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
